The Bible's Power - Christian Beliefs

I mentioned Sean in another one of my articles, the story of a young foster boy that we were taking care of. Sean's father was my ex-wife's uncle, and they were going through some tough times for a while and their three children ended up as wards of the state. We eventually ended up taking the oldest child because he was the hardest one to place and another home. His brother and sister ended up with a family that wanted to adopt them and eventually Sean went to live with them and I believe all three of them were adopted by this family. I don't know this for a fact though.

Sean was a emotionally damaged child. His parents would punish him with some strange and bizarre punishments. They weren't really physical punishments but seemed to leave the emotional scars on him and I often think about where he is and what he is doing.

We watched him for about a year and I learned quite a bit from this young man. He was in the third grade but was still at the first grade level for reading and math. I would spend a couple of hours each night during the week helping him with his schoolwork, I seem to have created some sort of allusion that I would be able to bring him up to the third grade level within a short period of time. Wrong. He must've had learning disabilities and of course I don't think I was that good teacher.

Sean was easy going, polite and extremely obedient. He would do anything to avoid getting in trouble and often blamed others for his mistakes. His punishments must have been more than he could bear before he arrived at our home. I think you're getting the picture about what kind of a child Sean was.

One day I found myself in a dilemma with Sean, I couldn't get him to tell me the truth, even though I knew he was lying. I forget what the problem was but I remember a hollow look in his face. It was almost like he wasn't really there. It was almost like he was just doing time, sitting on the bed, listening to me asking the same question over and over again, "Sean are you lying", but he wasn't even paying attention.

I normally would not punish my children for accidents, and never tolerated lying. I was trying to explain to him that he wasn't going to get in trouble, I just wanted to know the truth. He wasn't budging at all and stuck to his story. I remembered that his mother and father were Catholics and feared the church, almost as much as they loved it.

That's what I came up with my evil plan. I don't know where I come up with these ideas, but every once in a while one pops up in my head and I run with it.

I told Sean that I was going to bring the Holy Bible in, and if he could swear on the Bible that he was telling the truth, I would accept that and this would be the end of our conversation. I couldn't believe my eyes, as he started crying and screaming, frantically and excitedly as a yelled out, I did it, I did it, don't bring the Bible in, I won't do it again.

I couldn't believe that was all it took to get information from him. I have always been a pretty good interrogator and found myself gathering information from those people easily, but this was amazing. His fear of the Holy Bible got me thinking about how powerful this book actually is to some people. I remember when I looked upon this book, pretty much the same as Sean did.

It's just a book, like any other book. It's not made at a holy factory or a secret monastery in the Swiss Alps somewhere, it's made from paper and ink and can be damaged and destroyed like other books. I would be surprised if I threw the Bible into the fire, that it wouldn't burn. I would be even more surprised, if I seen three men standing in the fire, wait a minute that's another story in the Bible.

Is it possible for this book to actually control the lives of people. It seemed to control Sean, I wonder if I, could have actually been driving a nail home that his parents started. Could I have added to his belief, that the Bible is a book from God the creator of everything.

Can You Tell the Difference Between Evil Profits and Good Profits?

I was reading through an article the other day about the Wiccan religion and they were very upset about a comment that the Christian website owner had made. I would like you to read the response from the Christians first.

"I was watching a police show on television some time ago, and saw a sting operation in which undercover police officers bought drugs from dealers on the street. Invariably, some of the dealers would ask, "You a cop?" The officer would say "no," and the deal was made. Satan often goes undercover. The Bible tells us that he can even masquerade as an angel of light. Just because a certain religion professes no belief in Satan, does not mean its adherents are not falling for his lies. It just means that they're unaware that they are. You said God would be disgusted by our judgmentalism. God has told us in His Word (The Bible) to watch for false prophets and false apostles. God has told us to contend for the faith. He has told us to evangelize. In other words, God has told us to do just what we are doing."

Here's something I would like you to think about if you consider yourself a Christian, read this very carefully.

"God has told us in his Word the Bible to watch for false prophets and false apostles." I would like you to read this statement a couple of times and see if you agree with it. How can you possibly tell who the false prophets are? Do you think that because you are a Christian and believe in Jesus or God, that you will know the difference between a evil profit and a godly one?

I often write articles and have written quite a few of them about religion and Christianity. Seems to be the one that I know the most about, so it gets the most attention from me. If I was to make a statement like the Bible has contradictions in it, would you consider me an evil profit. Someone working for the Devil. I don't think so, because it doesn't make sense, how could you turn a truth full statement into evil prophesies.

If I was to introduce you to a hundred people, could you tell me by looking at them or talking to them, which ones are evil and which ones are good. Most Christians would probably respond to that with, God knows and that's good enough for me. Everyone else who talks bad about Christianity will be considered evil or searching for the truth. They just haven't found Jesus yet, is that right, is that what you believe.

I found this response to the Wiccan believer to be one that I run into often. It seems unfair to others who aren't Christians and one-sided. Most organized religions have answers for everything, the problem is that some of the times these answers don't make any sense at all. If you're going to follow this part of the Bible word for word, shouldn't you follow all of the Bible word for word.

Leviticus 14:9 On the seventh day he must shave off all his hair; he must shave his head, his beard, his eyebrows and the rest of his hair. He must wash his clothes and bathe himself with water, and he will be clean.

Leviticus 19:27 " 'Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.

This will make Christians easier to spot, a bald head with long beards.

Essential Laws of Fearless Living by Guy Finley - Book Review

I recently read the new book, The Essential Laws of Fearless Living by Guy Finley. Guy says that we have an insatiable desire to be someone in the world. What drives that? The wish for power, he asserts. We think that power will put us above the world of the ordinary. It will move us out of our unremarkable daily lives and into a life of excitement and pleasure. We are running from the fear of being no one. But, as Guy points out . . ."what we resist persists." So by living in fear and discouragement because we are unable to move away from the fear, we are only bringing more of the same feelings! It's a vicious, never-ending circle. We try using power to control and possess others - a really bad idea Guy points out because by trying to control another person, we are, in fact, giving our power over to that person. So not only are we not in control, someone else has control over us! Not exactly what we had in mind. So instead of trying to control others, give to others what we ask from them. That is the secret to receiving what we wish for from others

Most of us automatically resist the unknown. But in order to become fearless, we must practice self-liberation. We live in negative states of self-doubt and fear. But if we realize that these states are voluntary, not mandatory, we can begin to free ourselves from their imprisonment. The more we think negative thoughts, the more we sink into negativity. And the more we live in negativity, the more we react negatively. We must realize that negative reactions make nothing better!

So how do we become fearless? By letting go of those limiting beliefs. And how do we find our limiting beliefs? Through self-reflection and thought. Put a question to ourselves - such as, what do I fear? - and really think about the response. Self-awareness puts us in touch with the higher intelligence that already lives within all of us.

Stop trying to change the world that we see. Instead begin by changing the way we see the world. Work on the inner first and the outer will follow.

Use Religion Responsibly - Spiritual Humor

Well you probably heard of the problems that some people get into when they drink a little too much and start to drive their cars. This is known as drinking and driving irresponsibly and can be hazardous to your health but more hazardous to your pocketbook. Overdosing on drugs, spending too much money shopping, gambling excessively and last but not least, spending too much time at your place of worship can be hazardous to others. Over time, our loved ones seem to suffer the most from our excesses.

I suggest most people use religion responsibly and try not to overindulge in the excesses of your spiritual practice. Like an alcoholic drinking until they feel good, only to wake up feeling bad the next morning. And then starting the process all over the next day.

Now for the big question, "Are You a Religiousoholic?" Do you spend too much time at church? Do you surround yourself exclusively with people that share your same religious beliefs?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, there's a good chance you're a religiousoholic. Like alcoholics and drug addicts, there is help for you, once you've identified your problem, we can help. We call it our 5 step program. Alcoholics Anonymous has a 12 step program for recovery but we have eliminated a couple and rearranged others in hopes for a faster recovery.

Religionolism is no laughing matter and should be handled with the utmost delicacy. Start with the first step and work your way down the list and within a short period of time you should find yourself free from the religious tyranny of your institutionalized religion.

Step 1. The biggest problem you're going to happen during your recovery will be the temptation from religious followers, wanting you to come back. Like a drug addict, saying no to drugs,it's hard, you're going to have to be strong here. Learn to say no to organized religion and yes to religious freedom.

Step 2. Instead of reading Scripture, start reading about other religions around the world. You will find some weird things and new ideas, but the bottom line here is that you'll be able to see some similarities, and silliness between the religions.

Step 3. You can still spend time praying, just spend more time praying about how grateful you are, instead of praying for something you want, start spending a little more time thanking God for the things in your lives that you already have. I have spent a lot of time praying for things I never got. When I stopped praying for the things, I thought I needed, I started getting the things I really needed.

Step 4. Start spending a little more time believing in yourself, some religions seem to give all the glory and credit to their gods and very little to the people that are actually making the sacrifices. I have also noticed that when something goes wrong, some religious followers tend to punish themselves and it just doesn't seem fair. God gets all the credit when things are good and you blame yourself when things go wrong.

Step 5. Start showing a little more compassion towards people who don't think the same as you do or believe in your religion. Love and compassion are the true acts of a religious believer. I believe you'll find that in every religious scripture... somewhere.

Sometimes we get a little carried away in our beliefs and tend to beat up other people who don't share them with us. If you're part of a religion who discriminates, shows intolerance, bigotry or prejudice to other nonbelievers, maybe this isn't the religion you think it should be.

Dalai Lama - "All major religious traditions carry basically the same message, that is love, compassion and forgiveness, the important thing is they should be part of our daily lives."

Greg Vanden Berge is a published author, internet marketing expert, motivational inspiration to millions of people all over the world and is sharing some of his wisdom with experts in the fields of writing, marketing, and personal development. If we could communicate better and understand different religious philosophy and cultures.

Just how big of a deal is Money Organized Religion. Your money is used for various things and some of them, you might not really want to spend the money on. Something to think about.

If you want to read something funny and get your daily laugh in, you need to read this, it's funny Using Religion Responsibility. It's based on overindulgence.

Changing the Focus of Halloween for Christians

Some Christians avoid mention of Halloween. Some celebrate it anyway. Now, one company may change the way Christians view Halloween forever.

They have come up with a way to use Halloween as an opportunity. They have a Memory Cross card to hand out to trick-or-treaters with your Halloween candy.

What is a Memory Cross card? It is a four panel interactive card that is designed in an origami style. It unfolds to display selected bible verses. They target kids ages 4-13 and use colorful graphics to hold the both children and adults attention.

The original intention of a Memory Cross cards was for creator, Pastor Andy Lambert, to use in his sermons to tell bible stories. However, now there is yet another use. Because people love to play with these cards and flip them around, they easily learn Gods Word. These are great evangelism tools. Even the shy kids will want to pass them out to their family and friends.

Now for Halloween, they have a product that is designed to fold like the originals, but presents the gospel message. It starts out and says FREE CANDYWhat could be better than that? and then goes on to share the gospel. It is colorful. It has a photo of candy corn on the front and makes kids want to take a look inside.

Soinstead of just handing out candy this year, Christians can bring the hope of the gospel into the homes of every child who knocks on their door!

Sheryl Frey is a Christian dedicated to helping others find great Christian products like Memory Cross to share their faith. She also organizes the Memory Cross Kids challenge. For more information please see http://www.memorycrosskidschallenge.com

Laws Of Attraction In Action

Change Our Thoughts to Change Our Lives

We learned in science that objects and our bodies are comprised of atoms which are in constant motion. Matter vibrates. If the motion increases, the state of the object changes. Ice is heated to water. Water is heated to steam. Light, heat, and electricity vibrate. Colors form a spectrum from red to violet. As the pulsation increases, the colors shift from red to orange to yellow to green to blue to violet. All energies move and shift. We energy; we are vibrations.

What is true of our physical bodies is also true of our mental states. Just as physical objects modify their state, such as water to steam and lights from red to orange, our thoughts adjust. Thoughts are vibrations. We can stimulate our ideas and move them to a higher state, or we can lower them and become caught in negative emotions. We change. How we do that is our choice.

A practical spirituality teaches us that we can't cling to old ideas or patterns that are no longer useful or positive. We can think better thoughts. We can think higher thoughts. Our emotions are influenced by people around us. While we may not sense, observe or describe the differences as vibrations, we are aware that some people are more uplifting. Others bring us down.

We choose those who surround us. We choose which thoughts and emotions dominate our lives. Each mental or emotional state has its own rate of vibration. We can transform that rate at will and maintain a mental calm, unaffected by the opinions around us. Negative beliefs do not have to alter our positive state. We manage our thoughts. We do not have to get caught in the up and down drama of family, friends and associates.

Our challenge is to rise above the normal, material thoughts and be more positive, more evolved, and more spiritual.

Studying on Faith Alone

It's probably hard to find facts if your mind is already made up. If you're trying to find information on anything, more than likely you will find exactly what you're looking for, if you look hard enough. With all the information out there, available in books, media, and of course the Internet, would we really know the honest to God truth if we ran into one.

Not something that man made up and forced our ancestors to believe in.

If you're studying on faith alone and trying to prove or disprove something, you will succeed. If you're reading the Bible and looking for answers to problems in your life, eventually you will find the answers. All you need is to believe in your God and he will show you the way. Has he truly shown you the way or are you basing your religious beliefs on faith alone.

I have studied the Bible for many years and came to the conclusion that, I was often blinded by the way I view the information and couldn't get the facts most of the time. I always enjoyed reading Proverbs and the story of Job, both of these books in the Bible inspired me to become a better person.

By studying the Bible without faith and looking for information based on facts, it wasn't long before I realized this book could be and I say could be a group of stories that man over the centuries combined into one book during the Council of Nicaea in 325A.D and became religious doctrine for Christians.

In order to study anything effectively, you need to keep an open mind, this might require you to reprogram your thinking. You have been taught for years that only your religion is correct and all other religions are wrong. You can't think like this and gather information effectively.

Studying on faith alone could close your mind and keep you on the path of spiritual resistance. You know you're on this path if only the things you believe in make sense. Nothing nobody else says can make much sense if you're studying on faith alone.

What would it hurt to read a life changing spiritual book on another religion or form of spirituality? If you can't read another religious book, because you're religious organization tells you to only read their spiritual books to gather information, you're following a path of spiritual resistance.

If you're really going to study on faith alone then I suggest studying with intention to learn instead of follow.

The History of the Mardi Gras Party

Mardi Gras Party refers to that grand Mardi Gras celebration held in New Orleans each year. Mardi Gras means Fat Tuesday in French, and this is the day in many places around the world, not just New Orleans, during which celebrants each as much fattening, rich foods as possible and celebrate as much as possible before the beginning of Lent. Most of you know that during lent followers of certain Judeo-Christian religions must give up something they love for the forty-seven days until Easter in a sort of fast. For some people this could be bubble gum, chocolate or even alcohol.

Mardi Gras started in North America when the French explorers brought their celebrations with them in about 1699. As time passed Mardi Gras survived in New Orleans because of the Creoles or descendants of the French who kept their traditions alive. Each year Mardi Gras developed into a larger and larger event. Parades and Balls were held by the local krewes and each year a new king of the Carnival was chosen. Outsiders began to visit to observe the festivities, and later on to get in on the festivities.

Many people who now celebrate the exciting, rich, fantastical celebration of Mardi Gras arent doing it in preparation for Lent and may not even realize the underlying religious origins of the holiday.

Mardi Gras has three official colors that were chosen in 1872 by the King of the Carnival. They are purple, green and gold. Purple stands for justice, green stands for faith, and gold for power. The celebrations were at their peak each year during the past decade, until the devastation by two recent Hurricanes in 2005 that destroyed New Orleans. Mardi Gras continued in 2006 as scheduled, so that the celebration of Mardi Gras each year remains unbroken.

Best Ways to Meditate

Whether practiced as part of a religious experience or a relaxation technique, meditation is used by many to reach a higher level of consciousness, greater self awareness, inner peace, better health, or focused creativity. Learning how to meditate for maximum benefit takes practice and discipline, and developing a clear understanding some of the different focuses and philosophies of meditation can help you learn the best and most efficient ways to meditate.

How To Meditate

While there are many different "ways" to meditate, there are some consistencies in the general recommendations that can help you get the most out of your meditation. For instance, most types of meditation are most effectively done in a sitting position with a straight back. This helps your body more quickly reach a state of inner peace and concentration. Although lying down can help you relax, too, you are more likely to fall asleep in this position rather than focus on the meditation. While meditating, it is not entirely necessary to use the classic "lotus" posture with the legs crossed, but this is a common choice.

Meditation is best performed at certain parts of the day for best effect. It is best to avoid meditation immediately after eating a meal, as your body will be occupied with the process of digestion and less prepared to focus. Showering just before meditation can help your body feel fresh and prepared for the inner peace you are seeking. Many people claim that the best time for meditation is first thing in the morning, when your mind is more clear and alert.

Relaxation Meditation

To add to the relaxation meditation techniques, some suggest burning candles or incense, which can add aromatherapy effects to the meditation experience. Others enjoy using meditation music to enhance the experience-this can help mask any distracting background noise and further assist your focus on meditation. Meditation CDs can be found in many natural products stores, yoga studios, or other places that promote meditation for increased health and relaxation.

Yoga Meditation

Most types of yoga involve some form of meditation as part of the practice. Yoga meditation typically involves uniting the mind, spirit, and body and cleansing the mind. Mantras, or the repetition of a sound, word, or phrase, are often used to help focus and remove all distractions other than the purpose of the meditation, as well as very specific body postures and sequences of movements that allow for greater oxygen flow, blood flow, and energy flow.

There is no single "right" way to meditate properly, but learning to use meditation that works for you will help you attain control over your thoughts and actions more powerfully, allowing you to more completely create peace and harmony in your life. More than just simple "concentration," meditation involves using specific techniques to help your mind and body reach a higher level of awareness. Whether you choose to meditate to change bad habits or create new good ones, meditation can be an asset to your overall mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Spending 15 Minutes Each Day

The Future Looks Bright - Really it Does

Some folks read the newspapers and watch television and are so depleted by all the negative news that they adopt this attitude into their lives. It is rather unfortunate because the media creates sound and fury; chaos and controversy in order to sell their news and keep up ratings.

Without ratings they cannot sell advertising and these mass media outlets are fully aware that bad news sells five times better than good news. There are too many folks who have surrendered their minds to the mass media hysteria, far too many folks have adopted these doom and gloom attitudes of negativity.

The media portrays a point of view just like a cynic is able to project their perception and justify it. It may not be right, but it is right to them. If you listen to such poison for too long you will start to believe the negativity of the cynic.

Similarly if you allow your brain to be one with your TV set you are bound to have a negative attitude, but this is a choice, one you can deny or accept, this is totally up to you. Won't you join me to reject this negative attitude and realize all the wonderful things we should celebrate?

You see the future is bright, anything is possible. The future is a clean slate one you own and one you create. The past is a historical record of what once was, it's over, done, you cannot go back, nor should you stew about it to choose whom or what to blame.
The future is bright, it really is and it is all yours!

How to Increase Your Sphere of Influence

What do Moses, Dwight Moody, Billy Graham and Beth Moore have in common? Each was chosen as a vessel of honor by God. Each was required to be fully dependent upon Him as they lead people. Each was given a position by God which just so happened to also be valued and honored by men.

What do Ruth, Joseph, Paul and you have in common? Each was chosen as a vessel of honor by God. Each was required to be fully dependent upon Him as they lead* people. Each was given a position by God which just so happened to be less valued (or, in the case of Ruth, Joseph and Paul, sometimes even despised) by men.

God Himself has determined your position in life. Whether or not He has you preaching to a den full of lions, like Daniel, or preaching to lost souls in a prison, like Paul, or preaching with your god-honoring life to co-workers in a field, like Ruth, your "position" of honor is the one He gave you, regardless of how that is valued (or devalued) by men.

As I work with Christian women speakers, I frequently get emails from gals who are discouraged because they are not getting the number of speaking invitations they long to receive. I also get emails from speakers who are getting so many invitations that they don't know how to handle it. What makes the difference?

I propose that there are four things you can do to gracefully move from today to tomorrow and to, eventually, your full God-ordained sphere of influence:

1) Memorize, meditate on and pray Matthew 6:33 which explains the attitude God requires from leaders: "Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." In the end, it is God's choice whether He enables you to bring Him honor from a position in a castle or in a cabin.

2) Start today to live at the level of dependence on God and accountability that will be required of you should God ever grant you the position of honor you are seeking (or to which you believe God is calling you). Like Joseph, your path to prince-dome is most likely going to cost you everything you hold dear.

3) Practice, practice, practice! "Practicing the Presence of God" is the title of a little book that has impacted the lives of millions of people for many decades. It was written by a "chubby, bumbling" monk who worked in the kitchen of a monastery. If God can use Brother Lawrence to build His kingdom, are you willing to let Him use you, from where ever He has placed you? Identify your current kitchen or prison: It might be, like Paul's, a literal cell, or like Hannah's, the prison of barrenness or like Mary's, the mother of Jesus who spent her whole life convinced that Jesus was going to save the Jews. She raised His siblings (none of whom believed in her faith or in Jesus' diety), she must have wondered about His lack of motivation to get going on God's work during His 20's, and she was surely confused as she watched Him die the death of a criminal, providing not one shred of hope that He could ever fulfill His mission from her perspective.

Mary's role as Jesus' mother is only now, after her death, held in such a state of honor. For the entirety of her life, she did menial things, surrounded by unbelieving family members and a society who was convinced of her sin of premarital sex.

4) Move forward by faith! My sister taught me this definition of faith, "Faith is doing what I would do, if I knew for sure that God was going to do for me what I am asking Him to do." This faith-focus allowed her to exercise and eat right until, after eighteen years of marriage, prayers and miscarriages, God granted her a full-term pregnancy and a healthy baby.

If you knew for sure that God was going to give you exactly what you are praying for right now, what would you get busy doing today? Do it!

Too many times we think that God only uses the "big" names. That is travesty! God has always, and will always, use every single person willing to be used. It is, in fact, our petty demands for power and position that often hold Him back from using us.

Join me in praying that God would simply accomplish through my life the exact and full measure of what He envisioned before He created me in my mother's womb.

Remember: Like the engineer who designs the bicycle to be ridden for pleasure, exercise and transportation, so we have a Creator who created us for a specific purpose. Anytime we try to do or become anything other than God's plan for our life, we find ourselves angry, ineffective, and full of self-pity. It is as we allow God to accomplish His work through us, whatever that is, that we find pure joy.

*Leadership: If you are over two years old, your life and choices are having an influence on someone, which makes you a leader.

Putting God On Trial

Second Coming

This is ridiculous would have been my reaction a few years ago!

I was reading an article by someone who said their words were from someone not of this world. They were channeling through this person. I now read things like this with a more open mind, because I have found that most of what we have been told is all false. I read an article by a former pastor who said he had a friend in the CIA. Now this friend couldnt say anything because of quote national security but what he did say was everything you have been told is a lie.

OK back to the channeling article. As I was reading it I noticed there was something familiar about it. In it the author was talking about how these people from outer space were going to help those of us (who have become enlightened) to clean up this place we call Earth. Does this begin to sound like what we have been taught all our lives? I think some call it the Second Coming.

Now I really dont want to get into a theological discussion about what the Bible says or any other belief. What I am saying is that it is the same theme song, just with different words. Someone will save us. I believe that is because mankind needs that glimmer of hope that something or someone is going to come rescue them. I have been taught since before I could walk that the Christians would be raptured out of this mess and taken up to Heaven. This is not much different than this fellow channeling and saying a star nation was going to come down and save us from this mess we have created.

It seems to me that the real problem is we are looking to an outside force to intervene for us. Some people say the Bible says that the Second Coming happened in seventy AD and others look at the same Bible and say it is yet to happen. Others, as in the above-mentioned article, say some other outside force will appear. Ill let the reader decide which side they want to be on. What appears to me is we are forgetting the other things the Bible says. You know things like loving your enemy, treating others as you would want to be treated. Those words or similar ones can be found in almost all religions and disciplines. If we followed those simple guidelines we wouldnt have the mess we have here now. We wouldnt have companies putting out products that poison the water we drink, or the ground where we grow our food with their only motivation the bottom line. Nor would countries be invading each other.

The biggest stumbling block I see is that then we would have to be responsible for our own actions. Lets take an example from the Bible: if you accidentally killed someone in Biblical times, you might not be put to death for your actions, but you would have to reside in a city of refuge. It was still your action that caused the death and for that you had to pay. Today we just buy insurance, run over someone with our car, let the insurance company take care of it and we go on our merry way.

Im not sure how any of us can expect to be rescued when we arent living our life by the higher rules: rules of responsibility taking upon our own shoulders the consequences of our actions and not waiting for a bail out. Jesus said that the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. To me that says I can have it now, just reach out and grab it. It is not some far off place, its right here. It is determined by our acts and our faith. Other prophets, sages, whatever title you want to give them have said the same thing. Most of them, meaning religions and disciplines, say we will be judged by our actions at some point in time. Why then dont we live by the guidelines laid down for us? It seems one of the hardest things for us to do is to keep our noses out of other peoples business. We say we are living this way and so should everybody else.

We have let our governing bodies pass laws that only do that. A simple example is the drug law. If someone wants to put a substance in his/her body, harmful or not, why is that anybody elses business. If they smoke something that some consider unhealthy, isnt that their business and their body? As long as they are doing it and not harming anyone else why should we get upset about it? Wasnt one of the laws do unto others as you would have them do unto you? Well, what if someone decided that, (put in your favorite passion in here) was illegal. Now you could be sent to prison for doing something you love, because someone decided you were having too much fun.

Another example you are driving down the freeway with light traffic and you go seventy-five mph instead of the posted sixty-five mph. The highway patrol pulls you over and gives you a ticket. Were you hurting anyone? Well it all boils down to the same thing; we want be able to dictate what another person can do. Isnt that violating one of the laws in that book, judge not less ye be judged? That also violates common law! In common law there has to be an injured party. Who is the injured party in the above examples?

So - is there going to be a Second Coming, or is a star nation going to come to save us? You know what? I hope so. I hope something happens because we have made a real mess of this place. However, Im not going to hold my breath. Ive been around for almost seventy years and it hasnt happened yet. I think the best thing for me is to work toward living my life by the above rules: love my enemy, treat others as Id like to be treated, and refrain from judging anothers actions. Maybe if enough of us start doing that we can create our own Heaven right here on earth!

Why Should We Give Thanks in Times Like These?

According to History.com, the first Thanksgiving took place in Massachusetts during the Pilgrim Settlers second winter in America in December 1621. The first winter had killed 44 of the original 102 colonists. And because an unexpected trading vessel arrived, and swapped beaver pelts with them for corn, they were able to survive. Since next summers crops brought hope, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast on December 13, 1621, which is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. Although this feast is considered to be the very first Thanksgiving celebration, it was actually in keeping with a long tradition of celebrating the harvest and giving thanks for a successful bounty of crops. The Pilgrims gave thanks to God for helping them find acres of land that had no hostile Indians and for newfound religious freedom. They also celebrated with the friendly Indians who brought wild turkeys and venison with them. As well as prayers, sermons and songs of praise. They spent three days feasting and praying. Since that time, Thanksgiving is a celebration of thanks of gratitude to God for His grace and mercy upon us. And President Lincoln officially set aside the last Thursday of November in 1863, "as a day of thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father." In 1941, Congress ruled that after 1941, the fourth Thursday of November be observed as Thanksgiving Day and be a legal holiday.

But why should we give thanks in times like these today? It is true that in today's society, some of us may think we don't have much to be thankful for. From loss of jobs, homes, cars and possessions, what's left? From the fall of Wall Street, the never ending war and the bad economy, why should we still be thankful to God? 1 Thessalonians says, "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." This means, no matter what we may go through, good or bad, God will always make a way for us. Even at our darkest time or hour, God will always turn a negative into a positive, if we only believe and trust in Him. Even in the book of Exodus, the Israelites sang a song of thanksgiving as they were delivered from Pharoah's army after they crossed the Red Sea. And the book of Psalms is full of songs of thanksgiving for God's grace to the Israelite people as well as for His individual graces to each of us.

In this life there will always be things to complain about. But God gave us a choice. Do we choose to be positive or negative? Is the glass half empty or full? No matter how grim our situations may be, there will always be something to be thankful for. Did we live to see another day? Do we have our health and strength? Are our families ok? Do we have clothes, food and shelter? If we only believe and trust in God, He will give us our needs and not necessarily our wants. For Romans 8:28-30 says, "For those who know Christ, God also works everything together for good, even events we would not necessarily consider good." May God grant that He may find us grateful everyday for all gifts- spiritual and material.

Goal Setting in Line With the Universe

"Excuse me Sir," Alice asks. "Could you tell me which road to take?"

Wisely, the caterpillar asks, "Where are you going?"

Somewhat troubled, Alice replies, "Oh, I don't know where I am going, Sir."

"Well", replied the caterpillar, "If you don't know where you are going, it really doesn't matter which road you take."

(Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol.)

Goals give you some direction, they help you to plan where you want to go, and which road you need to take to get there.

Many people make the mistake of setting themselves rigid goals and may be disappointed when life deals them a blow or the universe encourages them to change direction. It is important to take into account when setting and following your goals that you should remain flexible and be willing and able to change your goals according to the opportunities that life offers.

You need to plan your course carefully, put your goals out clearly to the universe, and then surrender and flow with the river of life and go with the flow. This means that you don't have to put effort to get where you want to go; you simply put out clearly to the universe where you would like to go, and then patiently and harmoniously follow the flow of the river of life until it takes you there. Sometimes you even have to change direction or go back on yourself before your reach your final destination as the river of life sometimes takes a winding course.

Sometimes it will be more beneficial for you and others if you change your direction as you take advantage of a new opportunity. The secret is to hold onto your goals lightly and be willing to change them if something more appropriate and satisfying comes along. In this way you maintain a balance between keeping your destination clearly in mind, and yet also enjoying all the beautiful scenes you encounter along the way.

It is important that you do not keep a strong attachment to your goals as this might restrict you from accomplishing them. If you have a lot of heavy emotions riding on whether you attain your goal, you will tend to work against yourself. Strong attachment to goals might cause you to sabotage yourself with fear of failure or fear of success or by linking your self esteem and self worth to achieving a specific objective. Your fear of not getting what you want may actually energise the idea of not getting it!

Besides giving you a rough plan to follow, goals also:
- Keep you motivated
- Help you focus your energy and efforts
- Give you confidence when you look back and see all your successes
- Help you to evaluate your performance

Planning and documenting your goals helps you to monitor your progress and provide feedback about how your are doing. This is the power of goal setting - it directs you, gives you a sense of control over your future and builds confidence.

Powerful Beliefs in the Bible - How Powerful Exactly is the Bible

If you're a Christian, you probably believe in the Holy Bible and take it for granted, that this is the written Word of God. Here's a book that most people look upon as very sacred. I don't know if they do it anymore, but in a court of law, they would ask you to swear upon the Bible and to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help you God.

I would assume that this would generate fear in a prospective liar that was a Christian, but if you are a Muslim could you lie or should they switch the Bible to the Koran. Some things don't make sense do they. This made sense to me at one time and I even used this to gather some information from a nine year old boy at one time. I was amazed at how fast he told me the truth, when I pulled out a Bible and was going to have him swear to me that he wasn't lying. Try that one with your children.

I have seen Bible's in museums, on pedestals in churches and visible as you enter someone's home or bedroom. Are the Bibles that are located in people's homes to send you a strong sign of their faith. Do any of these Bibles ever get used or are they just there for looks?

Looking upon the Bible as a sacred symbol can create a sense of comfort and fear. At one time, I believed the Bible was some sort of sacred book and needed to be touched very delicately. I often wondered as a child if I accidentally tore out a page of the Bible, if I would have to spend an eternity burning in a lake of fire.

Are Bibles made at special factories and does each one of them need to be blessed or put in special shipping boxes before they are sent out to be sold or given away? I wonder if they use holy water during the printing procedure, if water is actually required. Do you think the paper come from special trees and are these trees grown on holy ground, maybe in a special forests guarded by angels. This is starting to sound like the makings for a good movie.

People can form powerful beliefs about other objects as well as the Bible. You should think about, some of the things you used to believe in and some of the things you still believe, then compare the two. Some of my old beliefs no longer serve me in a positive way. The Bible is just a book and should be treated like any other book. If the pages get ripped ripped fix them, if the bindings get loose repair them and if they become hard to read or have seen better days, replace them.

Being in Love - Realistic Love Can Last Forever

As children we are weaned on Cinderella and acculturated by an endless parade of romantic fantasies in novels, television and movies. It would be easy to assume that if we are not madly in love there is something wrong with us.

The euphoria of being in love is like an hourglass, with the heart filling up as the brain empties. The object of our affection is perfect; any problems we see in them will disappear because of love; we feel more alive than ever; our sense of self worth is at its peak; we don't get sick (immunity is actually strengthened during the phase); and we even look better. It is indeed one of life's pure joys.

But the dizziness ends-for everyone. That's why the stories about the spoony prince and princess never go on to talk about what happens next. The altered state of consciousness resulting from the shower of love chemicals that bathe the brain can only last for about two years. From a biological point of view, this is long enough to conceive a child and for the man to be held in the relationship while the mother and child are most vulnerable.

Since sex is primarily for the purpose of procreation, men are inclined to bond to women for short periods of in-love engagement, and then move to the next opportunity for being in love and disseminating genetics. There are longer-term considerations for a woman. She may end up with a child that will be her responsibility to suckle and nurture. Being at such risk, she is inclined to be more deliberate in her selection of a mate since long-term security and stability are of utmost importance for her and the child she will bear.

Men are the initiators of relationships and women more choosy and careful. This is not because of tradition, but because of these innate differences. Women flaunt their looks and sexuality; men flaunt their money (security) and strength (protection). Note how our hunter-gatherer origins are manifest in the way men are inclined toward sport and career (hunting, protecting, and providing), while women are inclined toward shopping, housekeeping, nurturing (gathering, sheltering, child rearing). It's all a human version of a mating dance.

Even the male and female sexual responses mirror these fundamental differences. The man is quickly aroused and more easily fulfilled, whereas the woman is slower to arousal, giving her more time to opt out if she determines the guy is a real loser. None of us have to think through these things. It is just who we are at our core; behaviors emanate from there.

In a pre-civilized world in which survival and perpetuation of the species was the imperative, moving to the inner urge of spreading seed far and wide was fine and dandy. But today's world is one in which stable, peaceful relationships and families, as well as intelligent population control are necessary for the very survival of the species. New rules are in order, the first being that mind, not gonad reflexes, must take priority.

Without realizing that the in-love altered state of consciousness will inevitably pass, and acknowledging the fundamental innate differences between the sexes, people are doomed to frustration when the intense feelings masking differences and excusing foibles abate. Then couples sense that they may have made a mistake and are missing out on the one true love that lasts forever. But the search for the perfect sustained love relationship is quixotic and doomed, like trying to nail Jell-o to the wall. If people understood that the euphoria of being in love is only sustained for a short period of time, they could then approach relationships with, so-to-speak, full disclosure so that relationships could be rationally built with realistic expectations.

A long-standing, intimate, and exciting relationship requires creative adaptation and needs to be continually nurtured as it evolves. It is a work in progress, never truly finalized. Instead, people feel betrayed when in love feelings ebb and tend to blame their partners for failing. If resentment builds, thinking about one another in a sexual way can fade like a memory. Studies have shown that if couples stop thinking erotically about one another for about five years, the ability to do so cannot be recaptured no matter how hard they may try.

The solution is not more closeness. The exact opposite is usually what is needed. Once a compatible mate is found and each has agreed to be locked to the marital ball and chain, mates need to be given slack. Two is not really one. Wedlock should not be more lock than wed. A woman's family orientation (nurturing), although different, complements a man's occupational (hunting) endeavors. A division of duties and interests and separation to accomplish these is normal and harmonious in the context of a stable family.

A warm and amiable relationship with unanimity of purpose is a realistic hope. However, we-ness, if taken to extreme, can hasten the demise of erotic zest and intimacy. By attempting to negate differences, neglecting independent friends and interests, and always attempting to think and feel as a unit, couples lose sight of the individuality that sparked the original interest in one another. Mary Sarton wrote: "Clutching is the surest way to murder love, as if it were a kitten not to be squeezed so hard, or a flower to fade in a tight hand."

The fundamental human problem of being a distinct individual who is ultimately alone can uniquely find a solution in a long-standing intimate relationship between two individuals who maintain their identity. However, the constant effort by couples to shape and mold one another into a cookie cutter version of one another is a tyranny that will demolish intimacy and fulfillment. Bonding and intimacy must not be taken to mean limitation of freedom or abandoning privacy. Everyone needs his or her own non-relational sphere of existence that should not be questioned or challenged. The knowledge that a free and independent person voluntarily chooses us also brings a sense of pride, affirmation, validation, and self-esteem. Such cannot come from feeling obligated and forced to conform to we-ness.

Curiously, therefore, the desire to be in love is at odds with itself. Falling in love and courting is like a wrestling match, the goal is to get as close as possible and win. But winning is at odds with the goal. After all, what is passion but a desire seeking fulfillment? But fulfillment satisfies desire. Unless the relationship is understood to be cyclical, with an endless series of desires and fulfillments that must be nurtured to be sustained, passion will end.

It is a paradox in life that satisfaction of any kind sows the seeds of discontent: we lust until we conquer and obtain, treat that which we have conquered with casualness, disrespect, or even contempt, and then set our sites on new horizons. But if relationships are understood to be a natural series of arousal, passion, fulfillment, satisfaction, and then a degree of disinterest, unrealistic expectations need not burden nor doom the relationship.

A sustained intimate relationship requires an act of will to maintain the attraction. In this regard, once one imagines that another person is no more than an extension of themselves, they let their guard down and can lose the dignity that privacy affords. For example, a mate may complain about their personal faults to a partner. The partner may not see them, but most certainly will if they are continually highlighted. It's like commenting to a friend on the tipped ear of another person. Your friend may have never noticed it, but now that is all they can see when they look at the person. People must permit their mates some fantasy even if they do not see themselves in such a favorable light. We can pretend we are perfect without saying it or acting like we think it. In this regard, Alfred Hitchcock's remark applies to either sex: "A woman, I always say, should be like a good suspense movie: the more left to the imagination, the more excitement there is."

It is also the duty of any person who expects another to remain faithful to them for a lifetime to be the best they can be. Letting oneself go because there are supposedly no obligations once locked into marriage, or because a mate tells us they "love us just as we are," is a crime against self and a betrayal and injustice to the partner. Time itself can also wear thin the desire for intimacy unless a conscious effort is made to not let it happen. Simply remembering the physical and mental features in a mate that originally elicited the attraction can prove to be a powerful stimulus. A man in his 70s may see a certain look in the eyes of his elderly wife that reminds him of the special attraction that originally brought him to her. She, when seeing his glances, may recall her fondness for his strong assertive and confident personality. This, in turn, causes her to look at him in that special way again which in turn stimulates his pride and confidence. And on the cycle goes. Such seeking out of comely characteristics in the other (not succumbing to the ever-present human tendency to be critical) can be an ongoing strong aphrodisiac that nurtures and sustains intimacy.

When people come together voluntarily to embark on a life-long relationship, they must accommodate rhythms. These include desire, euphoria, fulfillment, frustration, boredom, self-doubt, and disappointment. Accommodating this reality and not the fantasy of a continual in-love experience is an achievable objective that can bring inner peace, happiness, and the answer to a lonely existence.
